Embracing an expanded palette of carefully layered tone-on-tone, this new series endeavours to give you the feeling of a warm worn blanket, allowing us to sink into each piece gradually while taking in each layer both individiaully and as a grand whole. The colours are both fresh and nostalgic, soft yet at times graphic - a balance that is surely not as effortless as it appears.
Layers of collage and spray paint on cradled birch are used to initiate the Stolen Moment paintings. Acrylic paint is applied intuitively without the use of brushes. Hardware store tools, art store finds, and found objects are essential in building a rich surface texture. Mesmerizing detailed line work contrasts the loose surface to create these captivating intricate artworks.
Segment is an evolving body of work started during the months-long COVID-19 lock down. Once partitioned lives were thrown together while time, space and boundaries became fluid. It is as much about the art making process as it is a reflection of the human spirit’s ability to accept, adapt and adopt change.
